Most of us are well aware of just how important it is to look after our teeth. After all, we only have one set right?!
One of the biggest impacts on the health and condition of our teeth is what we eat and drink. If we follow a healthy diet our teeth like the rest of our bodies will benefit.
Of course we also need to be brushing them and flossing them regularly to.
But what impact does drinking coffee have on our teeth? Well, in this article I find out.
Coffee Stains Teeth Myth?

More than often we find ourselves waking up in the morning, extremely tired, groggy, and overall just not ready to go to work.
To cure this, we turn to having a cup of coffee to help wake us up and get us ready for the day.
Over the years though, and even whilst growing up, we’ve always heard that coffee is bad for your teeth and will leave stains over the course of time that you drink coffee.
This is no myth; the dark pigments from black coffee seep into the cracks on our tooth enamel, and if nothing is done about it then our teeth will start to have a yellowish stain over time.
Effects of Coffee on Teeth and Gums & is Black Coffee Bad for your Teeth?
With that being said, coffee isn’t all bad for us. In fact, research shows that drinking coffee can actually help to protect your teeth and gums from something called periodontal disease, a disease that causes infections and inflammation to structures around your teeth including your gums and jawbone. Not only does coffee help in protecting against periodontal disease, it also helps to get rid of bad bacteria on teeth as well. So overall, drinking black coffee isn’t actually bad for our teeth, but it will most definitely leave stains on them if not properly taken care of.
How to Prevent Coffee Stains?

Now, with the benefits of drinking coffee being stated, what can we do to avoid getting those coffee stains that we hate but still be able to continue drinking coffee?
These stains are tough, even worse than tobacco stains, so it’s best to take the proper steps in preventing them. One easy way to help avoid these stains is to drink through a straw.
Rather than the coffee swirling through your mouth when you drink it from the cup, drinking from a straw keeps the coffee from touching all of your teeth.
The best way to make sure you avoid coffee stains though is to just make sure you’re taking proper care of your teeth. Brushing with a good toothbrush multiple times a day, flossing, and using mouthwash are all important factors in caring for your dental health.
Using an electric toothbrush is even better than a regular one, as they help to clean your teeth much better than just a normal one. If stains do occur, you can always use whitening toothpaste, strips, and mouthwash to help fight those stains until they go away.
Can Dentists Remove Coffee Stains?

In the case that you do get coffee stains and at home whitening products don’t seem to be working, dentists can also provide care to help remove all of those stains.
Simply asking your dentist is all it takes to get them to whiten your teeth for you.
It’s best to always stay up to date with your dentist visits for regular cleanings to make sure all the coffee you drink isn’t beginning to stain your teeth.
Having this regular care is also another great way to prevent coffee stains.
It helps to not only keep your teeth and gums in healthy shape, but it also helps to keep those nasty stains away.
